The schedule of third day
If you will stay at Marukoma Onsen Ryokan, on its own cruiser you can be privileged to meet untouched nature of Lake Shikotsu that you could not reach by car. After check-out, let's take a walk around Lake Shikotsu Hot Spring town. At this place, not only cruising and boating but also souvenirs which are available only in Lake Shikotsu will make you feel pleased. Then head for Koke-no-Domon driving on route 276 toward Lake Toya. Koke-no-Domon is located at foot of Mt.Fuppushi. (Currently you only can go up to the observatory at the entrance.) Keep going to Kyoboku-no-Mori in which there are more than three- hundred-year-old oaks and Japanese Judas trees like towers. On the way, drop at a famous waterfall in Ohtaki village, Sankai-no-Taki, then switch to route 86 toward Shiraoi. You can have the scene of beautiful primeval forest and valley on your both sides while driving. It must be a great drive to refresh yourself.
In Shiraoi, let's learn about Ainu history and culture at Ainu Tribal Museum. On the way to Tomakomai, you will recognize Maruzen Food by its wind power generator. Maruzen Food is a fishery which directly sells hen clam and also has a beautiful view of Mt.Tarumae. Then go to Sun World at Tomakomai West Port. This is a market which supplies varieties of fresh fishes, vegetables and fruits with low price. Drop at Aji-no-Daiou serving curry ramen, if you feel hungry. Also it is necessary to take your time for having meal and shopping at New Chitose Airport.
