RAMBLING THROUGH THE WOOD - enjoy finding wild birds and walking 4 kilometers
Walk around the Wild Bird Woodland
　
　There's hillock named Kimunmorappu on the south of the Lake Shikotsu Hot Spring. This hillside is the Wild Bird Woodland maintained by Environment Agency. It takes about an hour and a half to walk all the way around. There're multiple woodland birds and water birds you can watch.
Enjoyment is not only the twitter of birds, but seasonal flowers. From April to June, Trillium, Tatitsubosumire are in bloom, and in early summer, Himeichige, Hoonoki come out. Along the track, there're bunch of Japanese maples and other type of maple trees. They're so beautiful and picturesque in the season of fresh verdure and crimson colored leaves that you may be amazed.
The path you walk is Shikotsu caldera which condition is maintained good enough to walk, but it still has up and downs and you will need shoes and clothes for trekking.
And, two bird observation cabins are on the way, so we recommend you to take the field glasses. If you have leisurely walk with your field glasses, you will feel refreshed and relaxed.

First, see the view of Lake Shikotsu from observatory by Kyuukamura. Bird watching from both of the observation cabins. The path weaving through the Japanese Judas Tree. Birds you can watch are on the billboard.

Use the self-guide book
Wild Bird Woodland guide book is in a small wooden box at the entrance of the track. It's one hundred yen. Besides the map, this guide book has minute information of the bird and plants you can watch. It will be great help for strolling in the Wild Bird Woodland.

If you step over to Morappu, you can walk around the beach. You can rest in the coffee shop of Kyuukamura.
